Fireside Chat #1 (NEF event)
Earlier this month the NEF hosted their first “Fireside Chat” of the talk series. The fireside chats are different to the speaker events in that they’re smaller, more intimate and only available for the current NEF class to attend. This chat was held in the cellar/function room of the Anthologist Bar, Gresham Street and was quite different to any event I’d attended before. The format and agenda was for a handful of established entrepreneurs to give a short pitch to the group, explaining their backgrounds, businesses and what they were up to, and then for the group of speakers to split off to different corners of the room for informal questions, discussions and drinks with the NEF cohort. It worked quite well actually and I enjoyed it. The only difficulty was trying to get round all the speakers one by one, with a particular few being especially popular and in a constant state of being ‘mobbed’ by most of the cohort!
I had good chats with 3 of the guys and picked up some interesting and constructive feedback on one of my new business ideas from one of the guest speakers in particular, so that was good.
In attendance we had:
Toby Austin: Co-founder & M.D. of UK Funders
David Buxton: Founder of Arachnys
Julien Callede: Co-founder & COO of Made.com
Will Silverwood: Managing Partner, UK Office, Iris Concise
Damian Dutton: Founder of Beeliked
Jason Stockwood: CEO, Simply Business
