The Circle | Book Review
Book Review: The Circle – Dave Eggers: Author of all these…
What’s it all about?
A novel. A really fascinating storyline following a young woman who lands a dream job at the world’s most coveted and successful tech company. The company is hypothetical, but everything else is based on the modern world and real locations, and the parallels with the current tech scene and in particular the might and power of the super giants like Facebook, is eerie. The story is an intriguing and exciting one, but with the underlying purpose of getting the reader to maybe question whether one company (The Circle) should have so much power and influence.
Who wrote it?
Dave Eggers – author, who I don’t know much more about to be honest!
Good for…
Nice to read a novel for a change, and especially interesting because it’s a novel aimed at making you think about privacy and the power of major successful internet companies – very on point today. This one is a bit of a marmite – some love it, some hate it – I still can’t decide! I was given it after the CEO of my previous employer made it her recommended book of the month (or something like that!), I enjoyed large parts but was left a bit flummoxed at the end not quite knowing what to think.
Long read / easy read?
Pretty long – 490 pages. Very easy to pick up and page turn though, quite engrossing.
